Missions 2007

Why Support Missions as a Church?
The main reason to support missionaries as a church body is because missions are very important to God. God is a “missions” God. He wants all the peoples of the world to worship Him. One day it will be so as Revelation 7:9 says “After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.” This happens as we go to model and preach the gospel of Christ. (Romans 10:14-15).

But why do this as a church body? It is because the local church is God’s primary tool of evangelism and discipleship. Paul and Barnabas were sent out from a local church, not as unconnected individuals (Acts 13:1-3). They reported back to local churches (Acts 14:26-28), and were supported prayerfully and financially by local churches (Phil 4:14-19). Hence New Hope should support missionaries as a local body of believers. It is Biblical.

Who should we support?
In Acts 1:8 Jesus says “...you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” This suggests three types of missionaries we should support.

“Jerusalem” missionaries
Our “Jerusalem” is our local area - the place where we live. God has called us to be His witnesses to our relatives, neighbors, and those with whom we work. Most of our Jerusalem ministry is what our local church does.

“Judea and Samaria” missionaries
Our Judea and Samaria are the people within our community and nation that may not be of the same age or ethnicity as ourselves. The missionaries that are serving in our “Judea and Samaria” include Laura Ferguson serving with Urban Impact in inner-city New Orleans; Kristine Van Noord, working with World Relief in Atlanta, GA; Clyde and Cathy Vollmers, Legacy Living International, Inc., Hudson, WI; Arlyn Abrams, serving as an Evangelical Free church planter in the western Iowa & southeast South Dakota area and Luis and Susan Martinez, Hispanic Ministry with EFCA Central District in Boone, IA. Ministries that we support within our community include Atlas, Hidden Acres, Katelyn's Fund, The Bridge, Love Inc. and Shepherd's Fold Ministries, Inc.

“Ends of the earth” missionaries
The “ends of the earth” include everything else. The missionaries we support that serve outside of the US are Ritch & Susan Trca, EFCM church planters in the Czech Republic; Matt Ernster (Ernie) serving Jesus in Czech Republic; Jean-Jean and Kristie Mompremier, with UCI in Haiti; Colin and Carla Wilson, with HAFF in Haiti; Rajesh Shendare and Retna Bag, with RIMI in India and Matt Hulst, serving worldwide with YWAM , currently in northern India.

How do I get involved?
It is our vision to reach all the peoples of the earth with the gospel of Christ. For this reason the New Hope EFC missions committee invites you to prayerfully consider making an additional commitment of financial and /or prayer support to missions.
